Eco-Drive
Powered by Light
What is the ideal power source for a watch? In 1976, CITIZEN introduced the world's first light-powered analogue quartz watch, naming the technology Eco-Drive to reflect its eco-friendly nature. Eco-Drive converts any type of light into energy to power the watch and stores excess energy in a power cell. This allows the watch to run for months on a full charge, even in darkness, without needing regular battery replacements. As a pioneer in light-powered technology, CITIZEN remains committed to exploring new innovations and possibilities, continually advancing the boundaries of watchmaking with sustainable and efficient solutions.
Eco-Drive
No need for regular battery replacement
Once, it was universally accepted that quartz watches required regular battery replacements. However, the introduction of Eco-Drive revolutionized this norm. Eco-Drive is a groundbreaking light-powered technology that drives watches by harnessing light and converting it into energy through an integrated solar cell. This innovation eliminated the need for frequent battery changes, transforming the way people interact with their timepieces. With Eco-Drive, the inconvenience of replacing batteries became a thing of the past, offering a more convenient and sustainable solution for powering quartz watches.
Eco-Drive
Runs even in dim light
Eco-Drive is engineered to charge from common light sources such as indoor fluorescent lighting and desk lamps. This means you can confidently wear your watch throughout your daily routine, knowing it will remain powered without interruption. For optimal performance, it’s recommended to place your watch in sunlight for about five to six hours each month. This additional exposure ensures the watch maintains its full charge and continues to operate efficiently. With Eco-Drive, the convenience of not needing regular battery changes is coupled with a simple charging routine, enhancing both reliability and ease of use.
Eco-Drive
Runs for over six months even in darkness
With Eco-Drive, continuous exposure to light isn’t necessary for powering your watch. A single full charge can keep Eco-Drive running for over six months in complete darkness. Some models equipped with a power-saving function can even last up to seven years. This innovative technology allows you to rely on your watch without worrying about frequent recharges or battery changes. However, note that some models may have a shorter battery life, running for less than six months in darkness. Eco-Drive combines convenience with long-lasting performance, ensuring your watch remains operational with minimal maintenance.
