Eco-Drive 50th Anniversary - LIGHT in BLACK Models, Inspired by Light and Time
CITIZEN Watch is releasing six limited-edition models from multiple collections to celebrate the 50th anniversary of light-powered Eco-Drive※1. Each model is inspired light and time – two essential elements of Eco-Drive technology.
LIGHT in BLACK Eco-Drive 50th Anniversary Edition Models
The LIGHT in BLACK collection was created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of CITIZEN’s core technology, Eco-Drive. The designs imagine a single beam of light illuminating the darkness with black cases and dials accented with gold-coloured elements to represent light. This captivating combination of light and dark expresses Eco-Drive's constant, enduring rhythm powered by light.
Stylish yellow gold-coloured accents contrast beautifully with the black base colour. Advanced inkjet printing technology is used on the dials to produce a sense of depth and dimension, with five overlapping patterns that symbolize the 50th anniversary. The deep black colour takes on different moods depending on the angle of the light reflecting off the dial. While all models in this series share the same design concept, each individual model has unique characteristics and personality.

| The dial features five overlapping patterns that produce unique textures and subtle colour gradations. Sparkling accents on the dial create an elegant, sophisticated look. ※3 Super Titanium™ is CITIZEN’s proprietary technology to treat solid titanium with surface hardening technology. It is at least 5 times harder than stainless steel, resistant to scratches, lightweight and gentle to the skin for comfortable wearing.
※4 Duratect is CITIZEN’s proprietary surface hardening technology that enhances the surface hardness of metals such as stainless steel and titanium, protecting watch bodies from scratches and damage. This technology offers excellent abrasion quality and maintains the luster of metals for long periods of time. Duratect DLC achieves Vickers hardness of 1,000-1,400 by creating an amorphous carbon hard film—mainly composed of carbon and hydrogen—on the surface of the material. (Vickers hardness of stainless steel is approx. 200 HV)
※5 Duratect amber yellow is a variety of Duratect that produces a soothing gold colour. It provides Vickers hardness of 1,700 to 2,300 HV, approx. 20 times harder than conventional gold plating.
※6 Anti-reflective coating: A multi-layered coating applied to the glass. The coating reduces the reflection of light from the surface of the glass that makes the dial easier to see.
※7 Light-level Indicator detects and displays the intensity of light striking the dial (which generates the electricity to run the watch) in seven levels, allowing wearers to easily gauge the charge level in any given situation.
※8 Perpetual calendar is a fully automatic calendar control function that automatically adjusts the end of each month, including the months of a leap year, until February 28, 2100.
